ACUTE SUBDURAL HEMATOMA

ACUTE SUBDURAL HEMATOMA

View image

This represents the presence of acute extra-axial hemorrhage overlying the right fronto-temporal convexity, due to tearing of bridging cortical veins. Blood collects between the dura and the arachnoid. The collection is typically crescentic and crosses sutures. Most acute subdural hematomas are hyperdense. There is an area of hypodensity external and adjacent to the hyperdense area representing chronic subdural fluid accumulation. Hence, this represents an acute on chronic subdural hematoma.
