Periapical tooth abscess: Periapical abscesses are carious teeth in which the pulp space infection has extended deep to the apex of the tooth, in the gingival socket. Radiographic findings include hyperlucency at the apex of the tooth. A breakdown of the filling is also seen on this x-ray . (L.S.)
